Ask questions about her past, her favorites, her habits, the couple and her choices, then add a this-or-that round and a would-she-rather round. Guests answer as they think the bride would; her own answers, collected before the party, are the key; one point for each match. The Knot calls the game "How Well Do You Know the Bride?", and many hosts call it "who knows the bride best". Would she rather, spicy and optional

Use these only if the bride is happy with them and the room is friends.

  • Would she rather get a love letter or a playlist?
  • Would she rather a candlelit dinner at home or a dressy night out?
  • Would she rather have a first kiss on a rooftop or on a beach?
  • Would she rather her partner sing to her in public or cook for her in private?

Tie-breakers

Ask these only if two guests tie. The closest guess wins.

  • How many countries has she visited?
  • How many months did the couple date before getting engaged?
  • How many pairs of shoes does she own (her own guess)?

How many questions to use

The Knot suggests a list of 20 questions for the game card, and a Sydney hens party guide also starts with 20 questions. Take a mix: a few from her story, a few favorites, a few habits, a couple round, and finish with this-or-that or would-she-rather, which score quickly.

How to collect the bride's answers

  1. Pick one collector. The host or maid of honor sends the questions to the bride privately before the party.
  2. Ask for alternatives. Next to each written answer, she adds anything else she would accept ("pizza" or "any pizza"). This avoids arguments later.
  3. Keep it sealed. Print her answers on one sheet and keep it in an envelope until the reveal.
  4. Keep her in the dark. If she would rather not know which questions you picked, send her more than you need and choose later.
  5. Plan B. If she can't answer ahead, ask her live at the end. Read each question; she answers aloud, and guests mark their own sheets.

How to score

  • Written answers: one point if it matches her answer or one of her alternatives.
  • This or that, would she rather, has she ever: one point for each match.
  • Close calls: Picnic Makers suggests half a point for answers that are close enough and a bonus point for the funniest answer chosen by the bride. Decide before you start, and let the bride rule.
  • Swap to mark. Guests pass their sheet to the left and mark a neighbor's while the answers are read.
  • Ties: read a tie-breaker; closest guess wins.

Illustrative scoring example

The scores below are invented to show the method. A twenty-question sheet: Dana gets 12 written matches and 2 half-points (13 total); Priya gets 13 written matches and no half-points (13 total). It is a tie, so the host reads "How many countries has she visited?" The bride said 9; Dana guesses 7 and Priya guesses 12. Dana is closer (off by 2, Priya by 3) and wins.

If you would rather not build the sheets, our bride quiz has a guest sheet with 28 scored questions in three sections (This or that, Has she ever…?, In her words), a box for each section's score and a tie-break question. The bride's answer sheet is the answer key, with an Also accept line under each written answer, and a host scoring card gives the steps, points per section and the tie-break rule. The files come in US Letter and A4. The questions are fixed; the personalizer does not edit them.

For a bachelorette where the groom answers too, What Did the Groom Say? has a groom questionnaire with 18 questions (15 mild + 3 optional Spicy) and a bride guess sheet with Match boxes.

Our list of bridal shower games puts this quiz next to the others, sorted by group size and prep. He Said, She Said works on both partners' answers instead of hers alone. For something less familiar, see unique bridal shower games.

One limit: the questions only work if guests know her. At a mixed shower where many guests are from one side of the family, lean on this-or-that and would-she-rather, which anyone can guess.

Questions and answers

How many questions should the bride quiz have?

The Knot and a hen party guide both suggest a list of twenty. That fills a seated round without dragging; keep two tie-breakers aside.

How do you get the bride's answers without spoiling the game?

Have one person collect them privately before the party, by message, a call or a sealed sheet. Ask her for acceptable alternatives too, so scoring is fair.

What are good would she rather questions for a bridal shower?

Would she rather plan the honeymoon or let it be a surprise, dance all night or talk all night, have breakfast in bed or brunch out? The set below has more, plus optional spicy ones.

What are funny questions to ask about the bride?

What would she be famous for? What does she say when she stubs her toe? What is the worst haircut she ever had? What would her partner say she hogs?

How well do you know the bride and groom?

Add a couple round: who said I love you first, who plans the trips, who is the tidier one. Guests answer as the bride would.

Can the bride play too?

She is the answer key, so she doesn't score. She can read her answers aloud at the end, which is often the fun part.
