You are packing for a bachelorette weekend and you do not want to be the one who forgot the phone charger. A good bachelorette packing list is sorted by bag: what goes in your carry-on, what you wear to each event, what the bride needs, and what the host brings for the whole group.

Most packing lists mix everything into one long column. That is how the hairspray ends up in the wrong bag and nobody brings the tape. Split the list by bag instead. Each bag has one owner and one job, so a missing item is easy to spot.

Guests need entries 1 to 3. The organizer adds entry 4 and send the group the guest part of the list a week before you leave.

The best packing list is the one that gets sent before the trip, not the one that is perfect.

1. Carry-on: the things you cannot replace

Start with what would ruin your weekend if you lost the bag. Your ID, your phone and its charger, your wallet, your medication and your keys go in the bag that stays with you. Add a small pouch with a toothbrush and deodorant so a delayed suitcase is an annoyance, not a crisis.

Liquids need a plan. TSA's rule is a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in your carry-on, each in a container of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less. Anything bigger goes in a checked bag. Hairspray, dry shampoo, perfume and face mist all count, so shop your bathroom for travel sizes before you buy new ones. TSA also lists medications among the exceptions, so check its page for how to pack yours.

Batteries have a rule too. TSA says portable chargers and power banks with a lithium ion battery must be packed in carry-on bags, and that spare lithium batteries are prohibited in checked luggage. Pack the power bank where you can reach it. You will want it by Saturday night.

2. Outfits: one look for each planned event

Count the events, then pack one look per event. A dinner, a pool or beach day, a night out and a brunch make four looks, and that is the whole suitcase. Anything that does not belong to an event needs a reason to come.

EventPackExtra
DinnerOne dressy look and its shoesLight layer for cold restaurants
Pool or beach daySwimsuit and cover-upSunscreen and a hat
Night outOne look and comfortable shoesFlat shoes for the walk back
BrunchOne relaxed lookPajamas for the morning before

Put each look in its own packing cube or bag, shoes included. On the day you pull one bag out and get dressed, and nobody digs through the suitcase while the group waits. Check the plan for dress codes first. A group color theme or matching look goes on top where you can find it.

Add the small things that save the day. Pack a backup pair of flat shoes, a light layer for cold restaurants and a pair of comfortable pajamas. Bring sunscreen for any outdoor day. The FDA says to use broad spectrum sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher and reapply at least every two hours, and more often if you are sweating or swimming. A bottle over 3.4 ounces needs to go in a checked bag.

3. The bride's bag: comfort first, photo pieces second

The bride gets her own bag so the group never has to hunt for her things. She has the most photos and the longest days, so comfort matters as much as the sparkle.

Start with comfort: a pair of broken-in flat shoes, blister plasters, a phone charger of her own, and her usual skin and hair products. Then add the photo pieces she actually wants to wear, such as a sash, a veil, sunglasses or a robe for the morning pictures. Ask her before you pack. Some brides love a full bride-to-be look and some want one small thing.

Keep a spare outfit in there too. A spill at dinner should not end her night. The group's gift for her can travel flat in this bag. For ideas, see bachelorette gift for bride for ideas.

4. The host's supply box: what the whole group shares

One person carries a box for the group. That is usually the maid of honor, or whoever organized the weekend. It holds the things nobody else will think to bring: a roll of tape, a few pens, scissors, safety pins, a small first aid kit and a phone charger with a long cable.

Put the printed pages here as well. Games, a weekend schedule, name cards and any decor you plan to hang all travel in one folder. Print everything before you leave and run a test print first, since a printer at a rental or hotel is rarely there when you need it. For decor ideas that fold flat, see bachelorette party decorations.

Add drinks and snacks for the room. Water, a few non-alcoholic drinks, something salty and something sweet cover most of it. Every drink game in the box should have a plain-water or non-alcoholic way to play, so nobody has to take a drink to join in.

For the lists of everyone and the box on one page, the Bachelorette Weekend Planner has a packing page for everyone plus the host's supply box, with the guest list and the budget on the pages next to it. You can type the lists into the PDF or fill them in with a pen. It does not count anything for you, and it is a printed page, so for a very small group a note on your phone does the same job.

5. Group extras: agree on who brings what

Some things only need one of them in the group. One speaker, one steamer, one phone charger strip and one big bag for trash are enough. Ask in the group chat who has what, and let people claim items instead of assigning them.

Sharing also cuts weight. Three hair dryers in one rental add up to a heavy pile of luggage, so drop yours when the list shows a duplicate. The organizer's dated to-do list, such as deposits and bookings, lives in the bachelorette party checklist. This list stays on things you carry.

How to choose for your bachelorette packing list: never forget or worth forgetting

Some items you can borrow, buy at the destination or skip. A few cannot be replaced on the spot. Sort each item with this table.

ItemNever forgetWorth forgetting
ID, phone, walletYes, carry-on
Power bankYes, carry-on only
Medication and contact lensesYes, carry-on
Phone chargerYes, one per person
Liquids over 3.4 ouncesLeave home or check
Third outfit "just in case"Worth forgetting
Hair dryerOne per room is enough
Printed games and scheduleYes, in the supply box
Tape, pens, safety pinsYes, one setA second set
Sunscreen for outdoor daysYes

The limit of any list is that it cannot know your trip. Flying with one small bag? The supply box may be just a folder and a pen. Driving? You can carry more. Cut the list down to the events on your plan.

FAQ

Conclusion

Pack by bag and the weekend gets easier. Your carry-on holds the liquids and the power bank, one bag holds the outfits sorted by event, the bride's bag holds her comfort and her photo pieces, and the host's supply box holds everything the group shares. Write the list once, send it to the group, and print the paper things before you leave.
